Message de Noël de Monseigneur Grégoire, évêque d'Arles et de l'Eglise Orthodoxe des Gaules

O SAGESSE !

Fils et Filles bien-aimés,

Nous nous préparons à célébrer l’Incarnation du Verbe de Dieu  Créateur, Dieu « dans un homme » selon l’expression de Saint Athanase d’Alexandrie ;  une fois encore, avec joie nous installons la crèche et nous répétons nos chants …

J’aimerais partager avec vous, une nouvelle fois, une célèbre méditation sur la Nativité de notre père Saint Jean de Saint-Denis.

Le 23 décembre 1956, celui qui était encore le père Eugraph Kovalevsky avait prononcé à l’Hôtel des Sociétés Savantes de Rouen, une conférence sur la naissance du Christ, à la fin de laquelle il  rappelait les trois groupes d’êtres qui entourent Jésus naissant : les bergers, les mages et les animaux-serviteurs : le bœuf et l’âne.

Les bergers sont des hommes simples, presque illettrés, leur caractéristique est qu’ils veillent la nuit sur leurs troupeaux : « les premiers capables de comprendre l’avènement du Christ sont ceux qui veillent dans la simplicité pendant la nuit : le chemin le plus direct pour atteindre la connaissance parfaite et reconnaitre dans l’Enfant de la crèche le Dieu éternel, c’est de garder l’état de vigilance au sein de toutes les nuits de l’humanité, veiller dans la prière même si cela semble sans résultat. »

Le chemin des mages c’est le voyage spirituel, le long tâtonnement, la route interminable, l’âme qui cherche, qui creuse, qui questionne ; si elle ne trouve pas ce qu’elle cherche c’est qu’elle s’est arrêtée à mi-course : « L’humanité entière arrivera jusqu’au Christ par une lente évolution, à condition d’aller jusqu’au bout. Le chemin des mages est un voyage sans répit… toujours en avant ! »

Enfin les animaux : le bœuf et l’âne ; ils ne sont pas cités dans les Evangiles, ils nous viennent tout droit du prophète Isaïe. Ce sont des êtres de peine, des esclaves de l’homme : l’âne porteur de fardeaux, le bœuf qui tire la charrue et qui n’a même plus la capacité d’être un animal normal, ni père, ni mère… « ils représentent les âmes dépourvues peut-être d’évolution spirituelle, des âmes de peine, qui peinent dans cette vie pour leurs familles, pour elles-mêmes, pour l’humanité ; ces âmes-là aussi seront introduites mystérieusement dans la grotte où  vient au monde le Dieu éternel ! »

Voilà les trois types d’hommes qui adorerons le Christ ! A nous de choisir entre les deux premières catégories, car la troisième ne se choisit pas, elle est subie. 

Voyageons sans repos avec les mages ou veillons dans la nuit comme les bergers, mais soyons assurés que, au bout de la nuit, au bout du chemin, nous trouverons, nous verrons de nos yeux et nous entendrons de nos oreilles le Verbe éternel de Dieu.

Le Christ est né pour nous, venez adorons-Le !

O WISDOM!

Beloved Daughters and Sons,

We are preparing to celebrate the Incarnation of the Word of God, the Creator, « God-in-man » according to the expression of Saint Athanasius of Alexandria; once again we joyfully prepare the nativity scene and rehearse the Christmas chants. 

I would like to share with you anew a famous reflection on the Nativity by our father Saint John of Saint-Denis.

On 23rd December 1956, the man who was still then Father Eugraph Kovalevsky gave a conference at the Hôtel des Sociétés Savantes in Rouen on the birth of Christ, at the end of which he recalled the three groups of beings who surround the newborn Jesus: the shepherds, the wise men and the attending animals - the ox and the donkey.

The Shepherds are simple men - almost illiterate. What characterises them is that they watch over their flocks at night. “The first ones able to comprehend the advent of Christ are those who keep watch in simplicity during the night. The most direct way of gaining perfect knowledge and of recognising the eternal God in the Child of the manger, it is to maintain a state of vigilance in all the nights of humanity, to watch in prayer even if this seems to bring no results.”

The journey of the Magi is the spiritual journey, the long trial and error, the endless road, the soul that searches, that digs, that questions. If the soul does not find what it is looking for, it is because it has stopped halfway. “All of humankind will arrive at Christ through a slow evolution, as long as they commit to going all the way. The journey of the Magi is a journey without respite… always moving forward!”

Finally the animals - the ox and the donkey. They are not mentioned in the Gospels, they come to us straight from the prophet Isaiah. They are beasts of burden, slaves of man. The donkey carries heavy loads, while the ox pulls the plough and no longer even has the capacity to be a normal animal, to be a father or a mother. “They represent souls that are perhaps devoid of spiritual evolution, souls in difficulty, who toil in this life for their families, for themselves, or for humanity. These souls too will be mysteriously brought into the cave where the eternal God comes into the world!”

These, then, are the three types of people who will adore Christ! It is up to us to choose between the first two categories, because the third cannot be chosen – rather it is something to which a person is subjected.

Let us travel without pause together with the Magi, or keep watch in the night like the Shepherds, but let us be assured that - at the end of the night, at the end of the road - we will find, we will see with our eyes and we will hear with our ears the eternal Word of God .

Christ is born for us: O come, let us adore Him!

O MĄDROŚCI!

Synowie i Córki, Umiłowani,

Przygotowujemy się do celebrowania Wcielenia Stwórczego Słowa Boga w człowieku, zgodnie z wyrażeniem św. Atanazego z Aleksandrii; jeszcze raz z radością stawiamy Szopkę i powtarzamy kolędy.

Chciałbym razem z Wami podzielić się jeszcze raz słynnym rozmyślaniem na temat Bożego Narodzenia autorstwa naszego Ojca św. Jana z Saint-Denis.

23 grudnia 1956 roku ten, który był jeszcze ojcem Eugraphem Kovalevskim, wygłosił w Hôtel des Sociétés Savantes w Rouen konferencję na temat narodzin Chrystusa, na końcu której przypomniał trzy grupy istot otaczających rodzącego się Jezusa: pastrzy, mędrców i zwierzęta – służące: wół i osioł. 

Pasterze są ludźmi prostymi, prawie niepiśmiennymi. Charakteryzują się tym, że czuwają w nocy przy swoich stadach: «Pierwszymi zdolnymi do rozumienia przyjścia Chrystusa są ci, którzy czuwają w prostocie podczas nocy: ścieżka najbardziej bezpośrednia, aby osiągnąć wiedzę doskonałą i rozpoznać w Dziecięciu z szopki Boga Wiecznego, to jest również zachować gotowość czuwania pośród wszystkich nocy i ciemności ogarniających ludzkość, trwać w modlitwie nawet, jeśli wydaje się bezowocna». 

Droga mędrców to jest podróż duchowa, długie kluczenie, niekończąca się droga, dusza, która szuka, docieka, która zadaje pytania; jeśli nie znajduje tego, czego szuka, zatrzymuje się w pół drogi: «Cała ludzkość przybędzie do Chrystusa przez powolną ewolucję, pod warunkiem wędrowania do końca. Droga mędrców jest podróżą bez wytchnienia, ciągle do przodu!».

Wreszcie zwierzęta: wół i osioł; nie są wymieniane w Ewangeliach, przychodzą do nas wskazywane przez proroka Izajasza. Są to istoty kojarzone z trudem, niewolnicy człowieka: osioł dźwigający ciężary, wół ciągnący pług, który nie jest już nawet w stanie być normalnym zwierzęciem, ani ojcem, ani matką… «Reprezentują one dusze pozbawione być może rozwoju duchowego, dusze utrudzone, które cierpią w tym życiu w imię ich rodzin, dla nich samych, dla ludzkości; takie dusze też zostaną w tajemniczy sposób wprowadzone do groty, gdzie przychodzi na świat Bóg Wieczny!».  

Oto trzy typy ludzi, którzy adorują Chrystusa! Do nas należy wybór pomiędzy dwiema pierwszymi kategoriami, ponieważ trzecia nie może być wybrana, ją po prostu się przeżywa.

Wędrujmy bez spoczynku z mędrcami lub czuwajmy w nocy jak pasterze, lecz bądźmy pewni, że u kresu nocy, na końcu drogi, znajdziemy i zobaczymy na własne oczy oraz usłyszymy na własne uszy odwieczne Słowo Boże.

Chrystus narodził się dla nas, przyjdźcie i adorujmy Go!

Ó SABEDORIA!

Amados filhos e filhas,
Estamos nos preparando para celebrar a Encarnação do Verbo de Deus, o Criador, "Deus em um homem", segundo a expressão de Santo Atanásio de Alexandria; mais uma vez, com alegria, montamos o presépio e repetimos nossos cânticos...
Gostaria de compartilhar com vocês uma famosa meditação sobre a Natividade feita por nosso pai São João de Saint-Denis.
Em 23 de dezembro de 1956, o então padre Eugraph Kovalevsky deu uma palestra sobre o nascimento de Cristo no Hôtel des Sociétés Savantes, em Rouen, no final da qual ele nos lembrou dos três grupos de seres que cercavam o menino Jesus: os pastores, os magos e os animais: o boi e o burro.
Os pastores são homens simples, quase analfabetos, e sua característica é que eles vigiam seus rebanhos à noite: "as primeiras pessoas capazes de compreender a vinda de Cristo são aquelas que vigiam com simplicidade à noite: a maneira mais direta de alcançar o conhecimento perfeito e reconhecer o Deus eterno, no Menino na manjedoura, é permanecer vigilante durante todas as noites da humanidade, vigiando em oração mesmo que pareça infrutífera."
O caminho dos Magos é a jornada espiritual, o longo tatear, o caminho sem fim, a alma que busca, que escava, que questiona; se não encontra o que procura é porque parou no meio do caminho: “Toda a humanidade chegará a Cristo através de uma evolução lenta, com a condição de ir até o fim. O caminho dos magos é uma jornada sem trégua… sempre avançando!" 
Por fim os animais: o boi e o burro; não são citados nos Evangelhos, chegam até nós diretamente do profeta Isaías. São seres de dificuldade, escravos do homem: o burro que carrega fardos, o boi que puxa o arado e que já nem tem capacidade de ser um animal normal, nem pai nem mãe… “representam almas talvez desprovidas de evolução espiritual, almas em dificuldade, que trabalham nesta vida pelas suas famílias, por si mesmas, pela humanidade; também estas almas serão misteriosamente introduzidas na caverna onde o Deus eterno vem ao mundo!"
Estes são os três tipos de homens que adorarão a Cristo! Cabe a nós escolher entre as duas primeiras categorias, porque a terceira não pode ser escolhida, é sofrida.
Viajemos inquietos com os sábios ou vigiemos a noite como os pastores, mas tenhamos a certeza de que, no final da noite, no final do caminho, encontraremos, veremos com os nossos olhos e ouviremos com nossos ouvidos a eterna Palavra de Deus.
Cristo nasceu para nós, vinde, adore-mo-Lo!
